Zihuatanejo, Mexico

Zihuatanejo, Mexico, is just a short flight from Mexico City.  Most people know Zihuatanejo as the oft-mentioned city in the movie The Shawshank Redemption starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman.  It was also featured in the movie When A Man Loves A Woman starring Meg Ryan and Andy Garcia.

Zihuatanejo is a traditional fishing village that is gradually morphing into a quaint tourist destination.  The very beaufitul Zihuatanejo Bay is a playground for water sports such as para-sailing, jet-skiing, and snorkeling.  There are also several fishing charters available.

While the beaches are very nice and enjoyable, the shopping is not particularly desirable and the nightlife options are minimal.  There are a handful of nice restaurants and very nice hotels such as La Casa Que Canta "The House That Sings."  Zihuatanejo is warm, small, and is much less tourist-oriented than other Mexican cities like Cancun or Cozumel.

It is a wonderful destination for a quiet honeymoon.
